Greetings from Glasgow

Hello Friends! I have arrived in Glasgow safe and sound. Getting here was quite an adventure. Alexander picked me up at the airport and we took a bus to Buchanan Bus Station and then walked about 10 minutes with 90 pounds of luggage up and down hills and several flights of stairs. It was quite a work out. He saved my life several times yesterday, I can't imagine I would have gotten all of that stuff transported and found the local Subway (haha), grocery store, mall, etc, by myself, so thank God for him.

Anyway, we went to Subway for lunch (I know, how international of me) and that was when I realized that I'm going to look like an idiot for a few weeks until I can figure out how to be a good transplant Glaswegian. I tried to order provolone cheese on my sandwich and I got the blankest stare ever. Finally I figured out that they only had american cheese (strange) and that was fine. I made my first transaction in pounds, which was pretty interesting. Alexander gave me a lesson in coins and bills. Hopefully I will get the hang of that soon! People also look at you funny when you ask for the bathroom here, you have to ask for "the nearest toliet." We went to the grocery store which was extremely easy, I am very glad that my debit card works here!

My roommates are super cute and international. There is Jing from China, Steph from Australia, Shacka from the Czech Republic, and two others, one from Korea and one from Singapore, whose names are currently slipping my mind. We had a nice chat yesterday, I think we are all going to get along really well!

Today I have to figure out where I need to be as far as classes go, and I think I'll do a little exploring of the neighborhood. Glasgow is the perfect size to walk pretty much everywhere, which is really nice! My internet connection is pretty sketchy, so I hope I will be able to update this pretty often!

And now, something borrowed from Cody, a reason to love it and a reason to leave it

Love it: Lots of interesting new people
Leave it: No such thing as ranch dressing

Cheers
Jillian

  1. I am concerned about the amount of food products they do not have there.

I found this hilarious site while I was fixing up your going away package that I forgot to mention to you. I'm sure you've already googled it yourself. haha

    Here it is, anyway..
